Free vibrators were handed out to 1000 members of the public in a promotion for International Orgasm Day this month.

People wandering through Queen Elizabeth Square in Auckland's CBD on August 8th were approached and offered the adult device.About 100 head massagers were also distributed.

A few people approached said "no thank you", says event organizer Fiona Gibb. But most smiled and accepted the gift.She is a director of Erotica Ltd, which runs the Erotica Adult Lifestyle Expo being held at the Greenland expo centre in November.

The first Erotica expo in New Zealand was held there last year. Gibb staged Orgasm Day to make a big splash for the coming expo. But the day is also held in the UK and US - initially staged by sellers of adult products in those countries.

Following her promotion this month she was interviewed by two Australian radio stations and Reuter's international news agency. Stories appeared around the world in publications such as the South African Financial Gazette, and on a London Internet site.

She believes New Zealand Truth and TV Extra is the only local publication to mention the handout. Gibb also owns Vixen Direct, a wholesale distributor of adult magazines, videos and adult products.
